Sanna Songbird sings Mercy Now
Added: 19-01-2008
'Sing Mercy Now' is an initiative of Mary Gauthier, an American singer/songwriter. This was her call:
"One day not too long ago I received an e-mail from a wonderful young man in Israel, Shay Guwetta, telling me that he'd recorded my song Mercy Now in Hebrew. When he sent me the MP3, I loved it. I put it up on my web site for everyone to hear, and told people about it at shows. A few weeks later, I played a private party in Manhattan, and I told the story about the wonderful cover of Mercy Now in Hebrew. Well, I had no idea that the Palestinian Ambassador to the US was in the audience. He came up to me after the show, and encouraged me to come to Palestine. He seemed a little put off by my glowing endorsement of the Hebrew version of my song. It dawned on me that I'd love to have an Arabic version of Mercy Now in addition to the Hebrew version. Then it hit me that I'd love to hear a version of Mercy Now translated into in as many languages as possible, especially the languages of places where war and political upheaval cause great pain and suffering. I am inviting musicians from everywhere to send in a version of Mercy Now in their musical own musical style and in their native language to SingMercyNow@gmail.com, and we'll post them up on the SingMercyNow Myspace page for the world to listen to. Who knows, we might lighten a few loads out there." - Mary Gauthier
The Dutch translation was made by Sanna and is posted on the Sing Mercy Now MySpace page.

Sanna Songbird on Musicupdate.nl
Added: 11-9-2007
The Dutch music news website www.musicupdate.nl has dedicated an article to Sanna Songbird and the upcoming release of the Songbird album. The article is in Dutch (as is the website), this is the English translation:
On september 15, Sanna Songbird's first album will come out.
Even as a 'Jane of all trades', music has always played a prominent role in Sanna's life. She was born to a musical family and grew up while records of (among others) Joni Mitchell, Emmylou Harris, CSNY and Dutch singer Boudewijn de Groot were playing in the background.
She developed a love for folk and country music and started singing at a very young age. In a few years she started playing guitar and soon the first selfmade compositions were born.
At first music merely fulfilled a role as a nice hobby, but after a few studies and jobs it became clear that all Sanna really wanted to do was make music. She yielded to the muse and so the Songbird album was recorded, on which she sings about this proces in the song 'The Key'. Thus, 'Songbird' is an ode to life in all its aspects.
